    Deb Lyman, LCSW

    LCS 22113

I want you to have a business that truly sustains you while you are making a difference in the world--one that is aligned with who you are, that you are excited about, and that nourishes both you and your clients. You were called to do this work and you want to do it well, and you can't do it as well when you are burnt-out, stressed-out, overworked, under-earning, or under-supported.

I help therapists take care of themselves while serving others, by taking them though a process of practice development that is based on the pillars of a sustainable and nourishing practice- mindset, clarity, integrity, sustainability, and community. You can read more about the pillars on the How We Do It page.

I've been in private practice since 2004, and have been a clinical supervisor for over a decade. I started out in community mental health, first in residential treatment and then in school-based services, before launching my private practice. In my clinical work, I integrate contemporary relational psychoanalytic thinking with attachment theory, mindfulness, neuroscience and a social justice lens. This also informs my thinking around practice building- so I will help you think about the clinical implications of business decisions and the business implications of clinical decisions.

    I've supervised at:

    • The Psychotherapy Institute
    • Pacific Center
    • Wright Institute Clinic
    • East Bay Agency for Children
    • Womens Therapy Center
    • CIIS
    • Grateful Heart Therapy Center

I also stay connected and give back to community by serving on the Executive Board of The Psychotherapy Institute.

If you are feeling like you aren't attracting the clients you really want to work with, or feel kind of wobbly about setting fees and policies that really work for you, struggle to hold the clinical alongside the business, or are overwhelmed and don't know the next step to take, I can help you get clear, get focused, and help you determine the next right move that works for who you truly are, as you build the thriving, nourishing practice you want.

I'd love to support you on your path.

What people have said about our work together

"Deb Lyman is my go-to person when it comes to all aspects of developing my private practice and growing as a clinician. She has a great sense of humor that instantly warms. She's encouraging, and super savvy clinically. I always walk away from our consultations with a clearer understanding and concrete tools to move toward meeting my clinical and business goals. I am so grateful to have Deb in my corner. Her support has been invaluable in helping me become a more confident and competent practitioner."

    Sara Nicoletti, MFT

"Deb helped me see my unique strengths and offerings as a newer clinician and supported me in developing more confidence to own these strengths and really trust in myself. She has a clear and direct way of holding the business side of running a private practice that I found helpful and relieving in a field where the business side is often not attended to enough. She is skilled at offering guidance, encouragement and suggestions that feel like a real support in this vulnerable process of building a sustainable private practice."

"Deb's calm and supportive approach to our group allowed us to explore and express ourselves in a safe and non-judgmental environment. She also held a good balance of concrete information on launching our careers, as well as holding space for professional and clinical concerns. I highly recommend her consultation groups to any clinicians, especially those who are early in their careers."
